BTC – Defined Risk

Bitcoin formed a swing high and broke below its day 39 low on Friday, extending its daily cycle decline to day 45.

The consolidation that developed over the past several weeks obscured the timing of the daily cycle low (DCL). Friday’s breakdown clarified the count, with bitcoin now deep in its timing band for a DCL. Bitcoin remains in a daily downtrend. Forming a swing high below the 10 day MA indicates a continuation of its daily downtrend and signals a cycle band sell signal.

So where does defined risk come into play?

Cycle analysis allows us to identify periods when a market is approaching a potential turning point. But timing alone is not enough. We still need price to form a swing low and close above the 10 day MA to signal a new daily cycle. A break above 78622.34 will form a swing low. If that occurs, the resulting cycle low provides a reference point against which risk can be measured.

That does not eliminate the possibility of further downside. It establishes a level where the developing bullish interpretation would need to be reconsidered.

The distinction is important: defined risk does not mean low risk.

For now, bitcoin remains in its daily cycle decline. The timing is becoming increasingly interesting, but price has yet to provide the evidence needed to signal the DCL.
