Intermediate Cycle Expectations

Stocks have now completed the first daily cycle of the second intermediate cycle, and the timing implications are becoming increasingly important.

January marks month 9 of the current yearly cycle, which places equities firmly inside the historical window where yearly cycle declines begin to emerge.

At the same time, stocks have entered their second intermediate cycle of the year, shifting the focus from upside momentum to cycle structure and risk management.

Recent price action has already delivered early warning signals, including:

These signals do not guarantee immediate downside—but they do raise the probability that future daily cycles may left translate and fail, a condition that often precedes both intermediate and yearly cycle lows.

As we move deeper into the year, the timing bands for the intermediate cycle low and the yearly cycle low are beginning to align. Whether this decline unfolds through a failed daily cycle—or requires another daily cycle first—will be critical in determining the market’s path into spring and early summer.
